POMEGRANATE SHOES (A Sudden
Gust of Wind)
A pomegranate tree outside
was bending in the November wind, heavy with fruit, most of it broken
open, outer skin-shells hardened, and split. I brought some into
the drawing space together with a pair of patent leather red high
heel slingbacks. Drawing them into an intertwined spiral, their
shapes transposed into a form-sequence like whirling papers, ambiguously-bordering
city-edges, in a wavy field, or better, a vertical transparent stack,
spiraling media, each image enmeshed or superceded by the next (crystalline
crumbled trash, stylized waveforms, cavity, pomegranate, shoes).
Overwriting all careful compositions, excessively. Persephone—as
she emerged from the ground (paper)—maybe, she tossed off
her shoes as she ran up over the top of the drawing. This drawing
is a cartoon for digital montage (including One/One/One, 2007).
